On September 10, we have the opportunity to celebrate one of the most special relationships on earth – the one which exists between a grandparent and their grandchildren. Many have tried to explain the reason why this bond is so strong, but few have come close to truly expressing the connection. Whatever causes the unbreakable love between the two, it is truly beautiful, and truly something to honor.
The Flower Bucket has the floral bouquets for Grandparents Day that will remind them of just how amazing they are.
Grandparents Day came from the imagination of Marian McQuade, a mother and grandmother from West Virginia. With 15 children and over 40 grandchildren. Marian’s cause was born out of a desire to keep family ties strong, as well as to encourage visitation to elderly grandparents living alone in nursing homes and retirement centers. Recognizing that grandparents had much to share with their grandchildren – and reminiscing about days when grandparents lived with their extended families – Marian drafted her vision for Grandparents Day, She got the attention of State Senator Shirley Love and U.S. Senator Jennings Randolph, and in 1978 the holiday bill was officially signed by President Jimmy Carter.
