A Bright Floral Design For International Women’s Day

On March 8, we here at The Flower Bucket join over 100 countries across the world to celebrate International Women’s Day, which we’ve been doing since 1909. On this day, we honor the achievements of our most influential women—the visionaries, mentors, activists and teachers who have advanced women’s causes over the course of a year. 2018’s theme is #PressForProgress, and the focus is on gender parity. IWD is a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the most influential woman in your life through flowers.

We love a very spring-forward design for an IWD gift such as Spring Galore, which is a riot of pastel petals. Most importantly, this piece involves purple, a color long-associated with the women’s movement, beginning with the suffragettes. And IWD has adopted violet as the official color for this year’s campaign.

This gorgeous mix manages to be both vibrant and symbolic, using a range of purples in a nice contrast with the orange roses. And while we may not have an official flower-giving tradition (let alone flower) for IWD, we should. In Italy, they exchange yellow mimosa flowers, while in Russia, its common to send flowers to all the women in the family. We think that our floral gifts should be driven by the theme IWD picks each year, which is always about celebrating the vitality and vision of women.
